Clarksville, TX, August 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Ekena Millwork announces the arrival of their new balustrade product line – FiberThane Balustrade.

FiberThane is a hybrid balustrade system that utilizes the strength and durability of fiberglass, and the architectural detail and elegance of high-density polyurethane. While traditional urethane balustrade systems are highly susceptible to denting, chipping, and warping, FiberThane’s rails and newel posts are made out of fiberglass, making them virtually indestructible. Utilizing this material for the rails also allows FiberThane to span up to 16’ long sections while competing systems can only span 8’.

“When we were designing this system, we just weren’t happy with many of the current baluster designs in the marketplace. It seems like every manufacturer simply copied another manufacturer’s spindle designs, and thus the same poorly designed spindles were the standard. We wanted something architecturally correct; a full line of spindles unique to us and that would fit into any aesthetic design.” Daniel Milkie – Director of Operations at Ekena Millwork – goes on to explain how Ekena consulted with their resident architect – Abi Ghorbani – and asked him to design a full array of spindles for the FiberThane balustrade system. Daniel says, “Each spindle style is available in 14 different combinations of height and block design, providing the most comprehensive and consistent line of balusters that exists in the market.”

Because the rails are made from pultruded fiberglass and the spindles from aluminum and urethane, the FiberThane Balustrade System is remarkably light-weight, weighing between 14lbs – 22lbs per lineal foot. This makes it perfect for even the most delicate balustrade applications like balconies or rooftops. But because the main components are fiberglass, the system is designed to withstand even the roughest of commercial applications like government buildings, bridges, and even hotels and resorts. Daniel comments about the choice to use fiberglass instead of urethane for the main structural components, “We purposefully designed our system to be perfect for every type of application. Competing FRP systems are remarkably strong and durable, but they weigh over 100lbs per foot, and thus are often unable to be used on balconies, decks, and rooftops. Urethane systems are light-weight, but can only span 8’ long and are highly susceptible to denting and scratching. Using fiberglass for the rails and newel posts allow us to solve the weight problem of FRP system, and the durability problem of urethane systems. FiberThane is truly a perfect system for every application.”

One of the more unique aspects of FiberThane is that the rails are going to be sold in one-foot increments. The popular urethane systems are only available in 8’, 10’, and 12’ sections, which quite often results in a significant amount of wasted rail. Ekena will offer FiberThane rails in sizes ranging from 1’ all the way up to 16’ long. Upon request, they will even trim the rail lengths down to your exact sizes, within an eighth of an inch.

Ekena did extensive market research and numerous interviews with local general contractors and railing installation experts to find out what method of installation they should use on their new balustrade system. Not finding any method that was both strong and had hidden installation brackets, the Ekena product developers decided to create their own bracket system. Working with a local GC – Naser Golriz – Ekena developed the Quick-Install brackets. Unlike traditional “L” bracket installation methods, FiberThane’s Quick-Install brackets are almost completely hidden from sight. Not only are they hidden and provide a clean installation look, but they are also stronger than the “L” bracket installation method that is commonplace. “Our two-step installation process which utilizes our patent-pending Quick-Install brackets is flat out the easiest, strongest, and quickest installation process that exists. It is one of the aspects of FiberThane that we are most proud of” says Daniel Milkie.

Ekena has expanded their facilities in Clarksville, Texas to accommodate the large inventory of FiberThane. And like all other Ekena products, FiberThane is going to be deeply inventoried and available to ship within 72 hours.

“We fully believe that our FiberThane Balustrade System is the best balustrade system that exists in the marketplace, and will set the standard for all future systems,” says Daniel.
