Ocean Star International, Inc. Responds to China’s Exclusive Claim to South China Sea

China is attempting to lay claim to the waters of the South China Sea. These waters have previously been understood to be international waters and were subject to shipping laws as such. China, in an attempt to gain exclusive control of these waters, has in the past, interrupted vessels from neighboring countries. An article in the Stars and Stripes which was published on June 27, 2011 stated that earlier this month, China had a run-in with a Vietnamese vessel causing significant damage. This past March China also interfered with a vessel from the Philippines near the Spratly Islands. Due to these events, China’s neighboring countries are seeking the assistance of the U.S. government to provide a stronger presence in the area to deter future confrontations with the Chinese.
