Conservation Charters Next Frontier for Yachting

Yachts are serving as platforms for unprecedented Ocean Science, Exploration, and Conservation.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, August 31, 2011 --(PR.com)-- With more vessels traveling to remote ocean locations that are perfect for scientific exploration, why isn’t more ocean science happening in the yachting industry?

This question inspired the founders of Ocean Preservation Alliance (OPA) to partner with a handful of passionate Yacht Owners and leading science, exploration, and conservation organizations. Their shared goal was infusing yacht expeditions with exciting, engaging and significant ocean science.

The idea is simple. A yacht chooses a region - OPA then asks their Science and Exploration partners “What important work can we achieve?” Options are presented and the yacht selects their destination and expedition based on merit and appeal.

OPA Expeditions encompass wildlife and habitat research, submarine & diving operations, surveying marine protected areas, seabed mapping, historical shipwreck location, and documentary & media production. OPA’s experience in remote conservation planning and coordination ensure logistics are professionally handled during complex expeditions. For longer science expeditions, OPA supervises on-board science operations and personnel.

Clients expressed such strong interest in participating in historical discoveries and major conservation efforts that a new concept developed: Ocean Conservation & Exploration Charters. One OPA vessel is offering a Pacific Tour searching for legendary shipwrecks and viewing active underwater volcanoes.

In promoting conservation expeditions OPA hopes the yachting community will lead by example to Protect, Restore, and Preserve our precious oceans.
