Medal Play Golf Tour Names SoCal Players of the Year
Palm Desert, CA, September 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited the challenging Desert Willow Firecliff course in Palm Desert Saturday. “The setting for the final was terrific,” said tour director Blane Freytag. “The competition was close in the Gold and Silver divisions that came down to the final holes to decide the Players of the Year in each division.”
Jacob Yousef of the Championship Division used this event as a tune up to defend his title at the Tour Championship and put his round to good use. Yousef fired a smooth net 74 to edge Shaun Clark by a stroke.
The Gold Division saw Steve Vance, who has had a hot hand lately, continue that trend shooting the best round on tour this season to earn his 3rd victory of the season. Jan koelsch came in second while Jim Munyon took third.
In the Silver Division, John Maldonado got hot on the back nine shooting a fantastic net 68 for the win. Greg Widman and Stan Tankersley each shot net 70 with Widman winning the card playoff on the 4th playoff hole.
This event concluded the “Summer Sizzle” series and the Player of the Year races in each division.
Shaun Clark used a runner up finish to secure the Player of the year honors in the Championship Division. Thomas Vail took 2nd while Rob Celaya was 3rd.
Only 65 points separated the top 4 in the Gold Division. Alan Forbes held on to secure Player of the Year honors while the chasers gave chase on this day. Forbes finished a scant 20 points over runner up Steve Vance who shot lights out trying to climb the leaderboard. Russell Gaston took third while Tom Taylor was fourth.
Chuck Thomas took the Player of the Year honors in the Silver Division for the 2nd consecutive year. Greg Widman, who needed a win Saturday to overtake Thomas took runner up honors. John Maldonado used a victory Saturday to move into 3rd while Stan Tankersley took 4th.
The tour returns to action with the Tour Championship September 10-11 at The LaQuinta Resort in La Quinta, CA.
