Netball America Night with the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks
Netball America announced today they will return to Los Angeles STAPLES Center to showcase a popular global sport ‘Netball’ in front of 14,000 WNBA Los Angeles Sparks fans on Saturday September 10th at starting at 4.30pm. A highlight will be having S7 American Idol finalist Michael Johns performing the anthem at 4.30pm. This event will present some of the nation’s top Netball athletes and youth development players joining together in Netball demonstrations before and during the Sparks game.
Los Angeles, CA, September 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Los Angeles Sparks are proud to partner with Netball America to increase awareness of the sport, demonstrate the game to their fans, and promote participation.
“Even though in other countries Netball and Basketball may be in competition– this is not the case in America. Netball is competing with newer sports trying to make their way into USA education curriculums. The typical American has never even seen a Netball court and if you say the word ‘Netball’ you get a strange look! So partnering with WNBA teams and other US organizations is giving Netball in America well deserved exposure. Netball America’s recent partnerships to implement its education programs into 400+ New York City Housing Authority community centers and Miami-Dade County’s 300+ Miami schools, is what is now, after having Netball in the USA for over 30 years, finally getting Americans playing the sport,” said Ros Day, Netball America Vice President of Education.
"I'm excited to support Netball America, and they are to be congratulated for their recent awards from the Womens' Sports Foundation, and, of course, to perform at such an iconic venue such as STAPLES Center," said Michael Johns.
At this event, Netball America and its Platinum Sponsor, GARED® will be debuting its first Netball equipment made in the USA. “Netball America is proud to partner with GARED® as a Platinum Sponsor for our showcase events as well as our official supplier of Netball posts. GARED® will be one of an exclusive group that will have the unique opportunity to create brand affinity through direct association at a variety of sporting and education events,” said Sonya Ottaway, President Netball America.
Netball America is sponsoring 100 youth from the Kids In Sports Foundation to attend the showcase. “We are honored to have Kids in Sports participate in the upcoming Netball America Night with the Sparks. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to learning more about how Netball can be incorporated into programs such as ours,” said Executive Director Elva Sandoval, Kids in Sports LA.
