Love is Coming Home to Burbank
Burbank, CA, September 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Love Is All You Need?, a short film that speaks out against teen bullying was produced by Burbank’s very own Production Company, WingSpan Pictures. Love has screened in film festivals all over the world and is finally coming home to Burbank as an “Official Selection” in the Burbank International Film Festival.
The festival is held over a four-day period in September at the AMC theaters on East Palm. The festival captures its home city's rich history and movie making magic by promoting fresh pieces of cinematic art by up and coming filmmakers from around the globe. One of the films being honored this year is Love Is All you Need? the award winning and ambitious film that has been tackling the international film festival circuit with admirable force.
Bullying is a major issue. No longer is it an issue of harmless playground teasing – bullying can mean the difference between life and death—and it has for a number of gay teens whose suicides have recently made headlines. This is the main issue surrounding the short film. The story revolves around an 11 year-old named Ashley who becomes the target of bullying when she comes to the realization that she is “straight”. The Problem? This film takes place in a world “gay” is “straight” and “straight” is “gay” - everyone in the alternate universe is born “gay”. The goal of this film is to have its audience feel how it is to be discriminated against because of your sexual preference.
The long-term goal of this short film is admirable. The film has hope of becoming incorporated into the curriculum of classes from junior high to college. The film hopes that by doing so it can help end bullying where it begins; with children and young adults who may not fully comprehend the traumatic damage that bullying incurs in its victims. Love is all you need? Not according to this film; you also need the freedom and safety to express your love. By showing the students how it would feel to “walk a mile in their shoes” the film hopes to make our classrooms a safer place.
By screening at the Burbank International Film Festival, Love Is All You Need? is one step closer to it’s goal. By reaching a larger audience the film hopes that, even if it doesn’t reach its long-term goal, it can still have a positive effect on audiences today.
