Bayer MaterialScience LLC at Advances in Polyurethane Technology Conference: Next-Generation Polyaspartics Coatings Improve Throughput Speed by Reducing Handling Times
Charlotte, NC, September 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Current coatings technologies for steel construction require long dry-to-handle times that can lead to construction delays or damage during shipping, fit-up and erection. Increasingly, engineers, architects and other building professionals are seeking coatings technologies with early development characteristics that reduce handling time and minimize damage when working with steel construction.
Mike Jeffries, strategic technology manager, aliphatic isocyanates and polyaspartics, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, discussed the benefits of polyaspartic coatings for steel construction during a presentation entitled “Polyaspartic Coatings: Next-Generation of Durable Shop and Field Applied Finishes,” at 10:35 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, as part of the Advances in Polyurethane Technology conference. This event, sponsored by the American Coatings Association, took place Sept. 14-15 in Charlotte, N.C.
During his presentation, Jeffries detailed polyaspartic coating chemistry and its features, including improved shop and field throughput by reducing handling time, fast cure at ambient and low temperatures, high film build and proven durability. Jeffries also highlighted the results of independent ambient and cold temperature tests comparing handling times of current coating technologies with next-generation polyaspartic coatings. More specifically, he described initial ambient test results indicating that polyaspartic coatings offer better resistance to abrasive/dust pick up and compression damage. Furthermore, according to Jeffries, cold temperature testing showed polyaspartic coatings outperformed current coating technologies in resistance to abrasive/dust pick up, compression damage and contact point damage.
