Eat Local Now! Accepting Nominations for the Jeff Fairhall Local Food Hero Award
Eat Local Now! established the Jeff Fairhall Local Food Hero Award in 2008 in honor of Fairhall, a pioneer in creating organic food that was sold in supermarkets, on airlines and in corporations. Fairhall pushed organic food into the mainstream founding the Essential Sandwich Company and later the Essential Bakery. He passed away in 2007.
Seattle, WA, September 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nominate your favorite local food warrior for the Jeff Fairhall Local Food Hero Award. The award will be presented at the 8th Annual Eat Local Now! dinner celebration at Herban Feast in Sodo Park on October 24. Eat Local Now! encourages participation in local food systems and access to healthy food for everyone.

Last year the award went to Aviva Furman for her work in building vibrant local economies through community projects such as Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle and the Community Orchard of West Seattle. Previous winners are Richard Conlin, the current Seattle City Council President, won the award in 2009 for promoting local food, urban farming and other sustainable practices in the City of Seattle. In 2008 Viki Sonntag received the award for her work for local food activism in the Puget Sound Region.
Eat Local Now! is now part of National Food Day, which advocates for access to healthy, sustainably grown foods for everyone, protecting the environment and animals by reforming factory farms, curbing junk food marketing to kids and supporting fair conditions to food and farm workers.
Sustainable West Seattle, CoolMom, Herban Feast and The Seattle Good Business Network are sponsoring the 8th Annual Eat Local Now! dinner at Herban Feast’s Sodo Park venue on October 24th. The evening includes dinner, speakers active in the local food movement, exhibitors, a silent auction and music. Eat Local Now! encourages participation in local food systems and food equality.
