Join the Turkish Olive Harvest Dionysos-Style with Exclusive Escapes
Autumn is a revered time of year nowhere more so than in Turkey, where Exclusive Escapes’ guests can take part in a traditional olive harvest at the Dionysos Estate during late October.
Richmond, United Kingdom, September 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Under the watchful eye of the owner, Ahmet Senol, couples and families alike can learn centuries-old harvest traditions in the comfort of a super-stylish boutique hotel. Follow the journey of olives from field to table and appreciate the love and care which goes into creating fine olive oil. Children of all ages are welcome over the half term holidays.
With an expansive, organic olive grove comprising over 1500 trees, Dionysos Estate guests are invited to arm themselves with rakes to literally pull olives from the trees. Much fun can be had in the process, with many guests becoming competitive about who can fill their baskets and apron pockets first. Learn how the trees are cultivated and the different harvesting methods used, as well as how the olives are prepared and pressed to make olive oil. There are organised tastings not only of the Dionysos Estate’s award-winning Amos brand, but also of many other varieties of olive oil from around the world.
Those participating in the olive harvest will have a chance to tour the Dionysos Estate’s organic farm, vineyard and orchards, to see how the local fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown. They can also enjoy a farm picnic. The Estate’s organic farm supplies 70% of the ingredients used in the hotel’s restaurants, with most ingredients arriving in the kitchens within hours of being lifted from the field.
There is of course no obligation to join the olive harvest activities, with many guests choosing to simply relax and enjoy the canyon-top surroundings. The Dionysos Estate stretches from the Bay of Kumlubuk below to the treetops in the mountain above, and guests are welcome to explore.
Facilities at the boutique hotel include a large infinity pool overlooking the sea, a Decélor spa and beauty centre (complete with open air hot tubs), private beach club (with water sports) just a short stroll down the mountainside, three restaurants, shady gardens peppered with hammocks, a tennis court and an air-conditioned gym.
There is a choice of rooms to suit all budgets, including interconnecting rooms which are ideal for families.
Dates and Prices: This year’s olive harvest runs 15 -29 October. Exclusive Escapes (T: 020 8605 3500 or www.exclusiveescapes.co.uk) offers seven nights’ B&B at the Dionysos Estate from £700pp sharing, including return flights (ex Heathrow, Bristol or Manchester) to Dalaman, transfers, a day’s cruise and all olive harvest activities.
