City of La Habra Heights Awards Contract to Evaluate 1950’s City Hall Facility
Pasadena, CA, September 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The City of La Habra Heights has awarded McClain Consulting Services, Inc. of Pasadena, CA a contract to complete a Facility Condition Assessment for the City’s existing structures.
The project will evaluate the existing condition of the City’s building systems, components, and subcomponents including building exteriors, roofing, mechanical systems and site features. McClain Consulting Services, Inc. will compile a comprehensive inventory of building systems and components including their expected useful life, remaining useful life, and projected replacement costs. In addition, surveys for asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint and lead in drinking water will be performed and operations and maintenance plans developed. The information obtained during the assessment will be used to project costs for repair, renovation, or replacement.
According to Mr. Amad Qattan, P.E., Public Works Director and City Engineer with the City of La Habra Heights, “The city hall facilities have been aging much faster than they are being repaired and maintained. Having been originally constructed in 1953, the buildings and their components have already lasted longer than their planned useful life. Consequently, many of these buildings are or will be pressed into services for which they were not designed. These factors will increasingly continue to stress our facilities and infrastructure and place even greater demand on staff to deliver more value for each repair and maintenance dollar. The assessment will provide valuable knowledge in prioritizing the use of renewal funds and limiting future liabilities.”
