MYCO Medical CEO Addresses Healthcare Supplier Diversity Forum
Sam Kumar urges MBEs to focus on more than just diversity.
Cary, NC, September 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Sam Kumar, the CEO of MYCO Medical, a national medical supply company and diversity supplier, urged a gathering of other Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) CEOs to think differently about how they position their products to hospitals, GPO’s and distributors.
Kumar spoke to the MBEs as a panelist in the forum, “Getting Healthcare Business - The Challenges and Solutions for MBEs” last week at the Healthcare Supplier Diversity Symposium, hosted by Owens and Minor.
He argued that not only should the industry focus on diversity, but on innovation as well.
“Because MBEs are often smaller firms, their size allows them to more quickly react to changing market conditions with an innovative product or solution, and the healthcare industry often doesn’t notice that,” Kumar told the gathering. “This agility leads to innovation, which helps move the industry forward and also helps facilities cut down on the fat in their supply costs.”
Kumar cited his company, MYCO Medical, as an example. MYCO Medical introduced the Qlicksmart scalpel blade removal systems to its product lineup earlier this year, just as OSHA launched an inspection of the sharp-safety program in four southeastern states.
“Although we identified the substantial savings and improvement to staff and patient safety that could be found by delivering ground-breaking, quality products at a competitive price, it is difficult to get noticed because the healthcare supply network is reluctant to change the way it always does business,” Kumar added. “The entire industry as well as our patients could benefit through improved products and cost savings if MBE’s are given a closer look.”
MYCO Medical, based in Cary, NC, was founded in 1993. Today, MYCO Medical distributes its disposable medical devices, including Surgical Blades, Procedure Needles, Blood Collection Devices, Wound Sutures, and an innovative OSHA compliant line of Staff & Patient safety products. MYCO Medical products are utilized in the healthcare, dental, podiatry and veterinary markets. Inc Magazine recently ranked MYCO Medical No. 3,034 on its annual ranking of the 5000 fastest-growing companies in the country.
