Papouli’s Greek Grill Names Alzheimer’s Association as Official Charity
Annual 5K Announcement made in recognition of Alzheimer’s World Action Day.
San Antonio, TX, September 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In support of the regional, national, and global organizations and the medical community devoted to a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, Papouli’s Greek Grill has launched “The Race to Remember,” an annual 5K run/walk that will generate funds and awareness that will be dedicated to the Alzheimer’s Association. Event coordinator Amber Anthony, a veteran marathoner and certified tri-athlete coach, will lead the Papouli’s – “The Race to Remember” program.
Papouli’s owner Nick Anthony’s own grandmother suffered from severe dementia in her final years, which at the time was likely undiagnosed Alzheimer’s. Anthony recalls, “My Yia Yia (“Grandmother” in Greek) often asked me where she was, and at times did not know who I was. It was very difficult to see her struggle so much.”
Anthony selected the Alzheimer’s Association as his company’s official charity because its mission resonates with the spirit of the Papouli’s brand, which centers on grandparents. The restaurant is dedicated to honoring our grandparents and recognizing that Alzheimer’s afflicts an ever-increasing number of our elderly generation. This is an important first step in increasing dialogue in the public arena that will lead to research and a cure.
Further information about “The Race to Remember” date and time is forthcoming. Event coordinator Amber Anthony will be providing training tips in advance of race day on the site’s web page. Individual runners as well as teams are welcome to contact her at amber@papoulis.com.
