Arcadia Foundation Presents World Class Performers, Elan Sicroff and Katharina Paul to Play the Music of Thomas De Hartmann in Their Only West Coast Appearance

Arcadia Foundation to sponsor a rare opportunity to hear the music of the Gurdjieff-de Hartmann repertoire and one of Russia's most well-known early composers, who wrote music for Wassily Kandinsky and Pablo Cassals. This will be the first US tour for rising star, Katharina Paul, who hails from the Mozart Orchestra of Bologna and studied under Claudio Abbado, former conductor of La Scala. Elan Sicroff is the foremost world specialist in De Hartmann’s music, having studied with his widow.

Seattle, WA, September 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- With the sponsorship of the Arcadia Foundation, Elan Sicroff is leading the effort to bring the music of de Hartmann into greater awareness. Mr. Sicroff will perform solo piano pieces and will also be joined by violinist Katharina Paul for the challenging Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 51. This virtuosic duo performs at 8 pm Friday and Saturday, October 14 and 15 in the ethereal acoustic space of the Fremont Abbey. All proceeds go to the non-profit Thomas de Hartmann Project.

Robert Fripp, of King Crimson fame, says of Sicroff playing de Hartmann: “Performance of this evening's quality & intentionality is exceptionally rare." De Hartmann was a prolific composer of classical music and also composed scores for over fifty movies yet is largely unknown, having died on the eve of his inaugural performance in the western world. Known more for creating dance music with the mystic philosopher and dancer G. I. Gurdjieff, de Hartmann’s larger body of work is only now being recognized on its own merits. By blending western compositional styles embodying romantic and modern styles with an Oriental sensibility, de Hartmann creates a novel and acoustically rich sound that is unlike any other composer. Mr. Sicroff and Ms. Paul have performed this program in venues in Rome, Malta, London, Dublin, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Boston, New York and many more. This Seattle opportunity is not to be missed and will be their only tour to the West Coast. Visit the Thomas de Hartmann Project web site at www.sicroff.com.
