Portland's Gallery 114 Presents "Portlandia: A Series of Prints from the Field" Featuring Artist F.X. Rosica
Portland, OR artist F.X. Rosica, member of Pearl District's Gallery 114, debuts his new collection of prints from sketches conducted on location using the region’s famous public transportation system.
Portland, OR, October 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- During the month of October 2011, the work of Gallery 114 member F.X. Rosica will be featured in an exhibition entitled Portlandia: A Series of Prints from the Field, composed of black and white, as well as colored prints from sketches conducted in situ—on location—using the region’s public transportation system.
Rosica explains: "Fieldwork is a general descriptive term that is mainly used in the natural and social sciences to mean work done or firsthand observations made in the field, as opposed to that done or observed in a controlled environment. The bus, streetcar and MAX trains provide me with an ideal “hide” – a cover to conduct my unobstructed field studies of traveling primates. This hide, typically from the back of the moving vehicle, allows me an unobstructed view into the lives and habits of Portlanders."
Although Rosica originally hypothesized that travellers were connected by virtue of all traveling together on public transportation toward a common destination, his recent observations captured in these prints reflects that we are, in fact, far more distracted and less aware of each other despite travelling together. Rosica adds that "as with the new TV series Portlandia, not everyone deserves to be in a sketch-comedy. Thus, some of my work remains as rough sketches, while others are transformed into prints."
The show runs from October 6 through October 30. Gallery 114 is open noon to 6:00 pm, Thursday through Sunday. The Opening Reception with the Artist will take place during Portland’s First Thursday event on October 6, 2011, 6-9 p.m.
