A.J. Perri Supports the School Holiday Hunger Challenge 2011
A.J. Perri, along with The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, is sponsoring this year's School Holiday Hunger Challenge.
Tinton Falls, NJ, October 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A.J. Perri has joined forces with The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, The Breeze, Thunder 106, B98.5 & the Asbury Park Press as a sponsor for the 5th Annual Monmouth/Ocean 2011 School Holiday Hunger Challenge. This year The FoodBank cites “a record number of people in need of food in our own community due to the challenging economic times.” Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J. Perri, states, “We want to encourage everyone in the community to get involved and help those in need through this great program.c
In addition to their sponsorship, A.J. Perri will be collecting non-perishable food items for their effort in this challenge. Perri states, “We live and work in this community and feel it’s important to help out our friends and neighbors whenever we can. The School Holiday Hunger Challenge is a great way to give back to those in our community who are in need right now, especially the children. When you hear the statistics that 51,000 children right here in Monmouth and Ocean counties suffer from hunger and food insecurity, how can anyone not step up and help?”
“This campaign isn’t just a school challenge – it’s a community challenge and we at The FoodBank challenge all businesses, big and small, to partner with local schools,” states Kate McMahon, Event Coordinator of The FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties.
Starting September 26th and running until November 21st, this campaign challenges and encourages pre-schools, elementary, middle and high schools to participate by collecting food for The FoodBank. The school that raises the most pounds of food will receive the 2011 Holiday Hunger Champion Trophy.
This is the fifth annual 2011 School Holiday Hunger Challenge and last year with the help of over 85 schools in Monmouth and Ocean Counties students, teachers, staff and their communities raised over 68,000 pounds of food. Monetary donations are also accepted and for every dollar raised the school will be credited with one pound. “More importantly,” says Perri, “is that for every $1 raised, The FoodBank can provide 3 meals to a family in need.”
