New Delhi, India, October 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dharamshila Hospital And Research Centre, India’s first and only NABH accredited Cancer Hospital, provides excellent facilities for early detection, Staging, Radiation, Surgery, Chemotherapy, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, Teaching, Training and Research. While addressing a press conference, Dr. S. Khanna, Executive Director, Dharamshila Hospital, said “while reviewing the outcome of cancer patients in the last 17 years, we are delighted to see that our results are comparable to the International standards.”
Dr. Anshuman Kumar, Surgical Oncologist at Dharamshila Hospital, said, “most cancer patients with head and neck tumors come to the hospital in late stages and require massive resection of tumour, which leaves a large gap in the operated area. To rehabilitate the patient physically and functionally, the world wide option is to use a free flap for reconstruction and start adjuvant Radiation and Chemotherapy, without losing time. We perform 160- 180 free flap reconstructions per annum for Head and Neck Cancers, which is the highest figure in India. Such extensive and challenging surgeries are not being performed by any other centre in North India with impactable results.”
Dr. Mudit Aggarwal, Surgical oncologist, shared the data on head and neck cancers operated at Dharamshila hospital in last seven years. He said, “34.5% patients reported with early disease (stage I & II) and 65% reported late (stage III & IVA). Out of these, 97% of early cases and 92 % of late cases are disease free and are enjoying normal life.”
Dr. S. Khanna, said, “the credit for such high success rate goes to the team work of dedicated and focused Surgical Oncologists, Plastic Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Critical care experts, Radiation Oncologists , Medical Oncologists, Onco-pathologists, Imaging Experts, Physiotherapists, Nurses, technicians, Prosthodontics , speech therapist and high-end diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic technologies.”
Lots of life-affirming gathering, who are enjoying their cancer free life were invited to share their experiences and were interviewed by the press. Mrs. Krishna Sharma, a stage III C ovarian cancer patient and Mrs. Rekha stage II B breast cancer survivors were operated at Dharamshila Hospital, 10 years ago and are leading normal, healthy and productive lives. Mr. Rajesh Dhawan, another Head and Neck cancer survivor, also shared his success story. He had to undergo massive surgery followed by reconstruction for his stage IV A cancer of lower gum, which had spread to the tongue, lower jaw and neck. This was followed by concurrent radiation and chemotherapy. He has recovered completely and is leading an active and productive life.
To prevent Head and Neck Cancer, Dharamshila runs a Tobacco Cessation Clinic, which helps people to Quit Tobacco. To detect cancer at an early stage, Dharamshila offers free cancer screening for men and women.
