Dr. Chi-Cheng Huang to Speak at Kaya Children International Celebration and Fundraising Dinner
Local non-profit Kaya Children International will host its first celebration and fundraiser dinner on Thursday, October 13, 2011. The evening will include cocktails at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. a raffle, a musical presentation, and an address from keynote speaker Dr. Chi-Cheng Huang.
Boston, MA, October 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On Thursday, October 13, 2011, local non-profit Kaya Children International will host its first celebration and fundraiser dinner at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, 40 Edwin H. The evening will include cocktails at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. a raffle, a musical presentation, and an address from keynote speaker Dr. Chi-Cheng Huang.
Dr. Huang graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1993 and went on to earn his medical degree at Harvard Medical School, graduating cum laude in 1998. He has received several awards, including the Asian Pacific Public Affairs Civil Servant of the Year Award and the Boston Medical School AAMC Humanism Award, and he is the author of When Invisible Children Sing (2006), a book describing the plight of street children in La Paz, Bolivia. He has spent the last fifteen years advocating for marginalized and impoverished children in developing countries. In 1997, he founded Kaya Children International, formerly called the Bolivian Street Children Project, and it was recognized as an official non-profit in 2003.
Now in its fourteenth year of work, Kaya owns and operates several homes in La Paz, Bolivia, all of which are targeted at meeting the needs of street children. Kaya has already educated and rehabilitated several children, and new children continue to enter these homes every day. Kaya’s vision is to have a future in which no child will call the streets home. To accomplish this mission, Kaya works to engage in direct service, research and advocacy.
The celebration and fundraiser dinner is one of Kaya’s principal fundraising events of the year, as well as a chance for the community to learn more about Kaya’s mission, current work, and goals for the future.
