About Tim Daum
Mr. Daum graduated magna cum laude from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio in 1990. He received his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. Mr. Daum has been with Crowe Horwath LLP for most of his career, where he is currently a Director in the Benefit Plan Services Group. He spends much of his time helping tax-exempt organizations understand the complex rules that apply to their executive compensation arrangements.
Mr. Daum is a Certified Pension Consultant (CPC), a Certified Equity Professional (CEP), a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), and an Enrolled Agent authorized to practice before the IRS. He is a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the ESOP Association.
Mr. Daum is a frequent speaker for professional organizations on executive compensation and retirement plan topics. He has presented at national conferences sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the National Center for Employee Ownership. In 2004, the Department of Treasury published Internal Revenue Code Section 409A. After it was published, tax-exempt employers sponsoring nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements questioned the applicability of the new Code section to their plans, and specifically how certain provisions would coordinate with Code Section 457(f), the section of the Code otherwise governing the operation of nonqualified plans maintained by tax-exempts. In 2007, the Treasury published its notice of intent to issue regulations regarding the applicability of Section 409A to 457(f) arrangements.
