North Jersey Gets Ready to Spoon

Old Tappan, NJ, October 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Local residents are getting ready to “Spoon” as the Bi-State Plaza prepares for the first Spoon Me Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies franchise in North Jersey opening on Friday, October 7, 2011.

“Spoon Me is for every member of the family,” said Karen Capone, one owner at Spoon Me Old Tappan. “Our frozen yogurt is all-natural and low in calories and fat. The kids think they are eating ice cream but the parents know its yogurt.”

All yogurt flavors are under 125 calories and 2 grams of fat. The yogurt contains live active cultures and is a good source of calcium, vitamins and minerals without any artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners. Plus, there is no table sugar in any of the flavors.

The yogurt is all self-serve, including a variety of toppings like cereals, nuts, candy and freshly cut fruit. A full service smoothie bar is also available for customers to order a blend of yogurt, juice and fruit with the option of adding in boosts, like whey or soy protein.

Beyond the yogurt and smoothies, Spoon Me offers a casual yet contemporary environment and will sell apparel from T-Shirts and hoodies to yoga pants and underwear.

“The store is designed as café-like hangout complete with WiFi for students and professionals to come study or check emails with a delicious frozen yogurt or smoothie,” said Barbara Schiavi-Buquicchio, the second owner of the Old Tappan store. “We are excited to open up the doors to everyone in our community.”

Capone and Schiavi-Buquicchio decided to open a frozen yogurt franchise after years of contemplating starting a business together once their children headed to college. That time has come for both women but the excitement of opening their frozen yogurt store has filled the emotional void many parents feel when the children grow up, leave for school or get married.

Capone and Schiavi-Buquicchio decided on the Spoon Me brand because they know the Old Tappan community and the families who reside in the area.

“The Spoon Me concept seemed like a good fit for the Old Tappan community,” said Capone.

“We have three philosophies—love the body, environment and community. That is why all our products are served with 100% biodegradable cups and spoons. Plus, every month a charity or organization is chosen to receive a monetary donation from our ‘Keep the Change Program.’”

The first Keep the Change recipient for the month of October will be the Old Tappan Volunteer Fire Department to help showcase National Fire Awareness Month and to promote the station’s Open House on Tuesday October 11th, 2011. No tips are accepted at Spoon Me, instead all extra change can be placed in the donation box by the register, and at the end of the month Spoon Me will present the recipient with a check.
