DLR Group Selected for Evans Army Community Hospital Renovation
Colorado Springs, CO, October 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Colorado architecture firm DLR Group was recently awarded design services for the Evans Army Community Hospital Alterations project located at Fort Carson, Colorado. The renovations will take place within the surgical and behavioral health inpatient units at the hospital which serves U.S. Army soldiers and their families. DLR Group is teamed with their design-build partner Bryan Construction who will carry out the construction phase of the project. Both companies are local to the Colorado Springs area and have had a long history of successful projects completed at Fort Carson.
“We are extremely honored to be a part of the team that will be responsible for creating a healthy and healing environment for our soldiers and their families,” stated Tom Kapels, the project’s design manager who is also an Army Veteran. “DLR Group has designed green buildings previously, but never one where the sustainable design features have had such a direct role in the mental and physical well-being of the occupants. The building will become part of the healing process for soldiers with design features such as daylighting, indoor air quality, and access to outdoor areas.”
The 47,000 SF renovation project will be located on the 4th and 5th floors of Evans Army Community Hospital, including 30,000 SF of inpatient medical/surgical space and 17,000 SF dedicated to inpatient behavioral health services. This will include an area of the fourth floor roof that will become part of the outdoor behavioral health space with a possible roof garden.
DLR Group will provide the project management, interior design, LEED administration, quality control, and construction administration for the project. The project alterations will acquire LEED Silver certification and construction is anticipated to begin in April of 2012. The project is anticipated to take two years for completion.
