On October 23, 2011, four South Florida coaches, Scott McMillan, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lynn University, and High School Varsity Coaches John Jones, Marty Seidlin, Nhu Nguyen will hold a basketball clinic for local kids at the Lifetime Fitness Center in Boca Raton. The clinic, “What it takes to Play Competitive Basketball at an Elite Level,” is part of a larger program to bring awareness to the problem of human trafficking. Florida has the second highest incidence of human trafficking in the United States with the Miami Airport as one of the top entry points for victims.

“The program includes a hands-on clinic geared towards preparing boys and girls for competitive high school basketball, as well as speakers on proper nutrition and conditioning,” said James Taylor of Taylored Athletes and Lynn University Basketball Hall of Famer.

‘Reach. Achieve. Believe’ organizers are hoping to host 150 to 200 boys and girls from the 5th through 10th grade at the event. The proceeds will be donated to the Freedom Climb; an event held in January 2012 where a group of women will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as a symbol of the difficult climb to freedom faced by millions of enslaved women and children worldwide. The 2012 goal of Freedom Climb is to affect the lives of 10,000 women through projects that break the cycles of poverty, shame, slavery and despair. Debbie Dingle of Boca Raton will be participating in this event.

“James and Taylored Athletes are sponsoring and helping direct the clinic,” commented co-sponsor, Tina-Lux Boim, CEO of MMI. “This is an outstanding basketball clinic directed by an amazing group of coaches. All proceeds will benefit the Freedom Climb bringing awareness and financial support for women and children being oppressed, enslaved, exploited and trafficked.”
