Celebrating 100 Years Since Ambrose Bierce’s Devil’s Dictionary, Author Derek Abbott Releases a Comical, Entertaining Update Called The Wickedictionary
Atlanta, GA, October 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Wickedictionary celebrates the 100th anniversary of Ambrose Bierce’s Devil’s Dictionary (1911).
The name Wickedictionary is intended to be a satirical play on the word Wiktionary.
This is a collection of definitions of words as in a dictionary, except the definitions are perverse in the style of Ambrose Bierce's the Devil's Dictionary. This is not a book of quotations, although the definitions are quotable. The idea is to modernize Ambrose Bierce, coming up with a more contemporary and cutting-edge collection of definitions. This is intended to be comical, there are no sides, and nothing is sacred here. Basically any definition that has a surprise twist qualifies for entry, whether it happens to be cynical or not. The idea is we don't have to necessarily agree with these definitions, but to merely enjoy them for making us think. As Aristotle once said, “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
"The book is both the perfect 'bathroom read' as well as a powerful tool that a professional speech writer, philosopher, author or comedian can pick up to find a repository of thought-provoking, inspirational ideas," says Abbott.
