A "Classroom in Every Garden" Grows at Deasy
Westchester, NY, October 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Teich Garden Systems LLC announced today the completion of a new outdoor garden classroom at Deasy Elementary School in Glen Cove, New York. The garden was funded by a generous grant to the PTA. The project was spearheaded by Principal Nomi Rosen, and was greatly supported by the Deasy Garden team made up of parent and teachers.
The 512 square foot garden includes a paved area that provides universal access and can accommodate students for garden demonstrations and classes. A planting day was held on October 5th with TGS’s Garden Event Leader, Brian Carney, providing an educational and entertaining experience for the students. Students planted arugula and butter crunch lettuce, bok choy, kale, Swiss chard, broccoli and collards. The crop is expected to be harvested and enjoyed by the students later this Fall.
Principal Rosen stated, “This is an extremely exciting project which has brought the entire Deasy community together. Watching the faces of our 467 students as they realized that they would be eating the very vegetables that they were planting in the garden was totally amazing! This experience will enrich not only our science curriculum but enhance our 'healthy lifestyle' initiative as well. Teich Garden Systems is top notch!”
