16th Annual Urban Wheel Awards Announces the Automotive Company of the Year Winners for Diversity

Finalists Reflect the Auto Companies Setting a Standard of Excellence in Serving the Auto Industry and Multicultural Consumers, Employees and Business

Detroit, MI, October 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The 16th Annual Urban Wheel Awards, hosted by the Emerging Diversity Education Fund and Decisive Media, announced the winners of the 2012 Urban Wheel Company of the Year Awards who will be honored on Sunday January 8, 2012 at the Sound Board Theater, MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, Mich. The Annual Urban Wheel Awards is the nation’s only award show bringing together celebrities, automotive executives, international media, government representatives, and the multicultural community to celebrate inclusion in the automotive industry. The UWA event is named the Official Multicultural Event of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) by the 2012 NAIAS Executive Committee.

Winners of the Urban Wheel Company of the Year Awards are being recognized for demonstrating a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in the areas of Workforce Development, Community Leadership, Minority Supplier Development, and Diversity Inclusion Leadership.

The 2012 Urban Wheel Company of the Year awardees are:

• Chrysler Group LLC - Workforce Development

• General Motors Company - Community Leadership

• Ford Motor Company - Minority Supplier Development

• Toyota Motor Corporation - Diversity Inclusion Leadership

“This year marks the 16th year of our participation with the North American International Auto Show to promote diversity inclusion in the auto industry,” said Randi Payton, founder of the Urban Wheel Awards. “Our judges looked at four companies for their diversity leadership in four key areas, and picked the ones who set the benchmark for the rest of the industry. We salute each company for their unwavering commitment to ensuring that diversity remains a business imperative within their respective corporate objectives.”

The 16th Annual Urban Wheel Awards event is expected to attract nearly 2,000 movers and shakers in the automobile industry, as well as auto enthusiasts from across the country. The festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to honor William “Bill” Perkins, the first African-American chairman of the NAIAS. The celebrity Green Carpet and VIP reception follows at 5:30 p.m.; the awards show will take place from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. In addition to the Company of the Year categories, the Dealer of the Year, Supplier of the Year, and Car of the Year winners will be among those honored.
