Patient Safety Advocate Pat Mastors Shares Strategies for Surviving Any Hospital Stay
Pat Mastors was an award-winning television news anchor and medical reporter for two decades before beginning her journey as a patient advocate following the sudden hospitalization of her father in 2005. He died six months later from complications due to a hospital-acquired infection. Now, she wants to help others feel empowered and make informed health care choices by sharing all she's learned.
Providence, RI, October 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates about 2 million people contract hospital-acquired infections each year, with nearly 100,000 of those cases proving fatal.
What can be done help empower and educate people to have better health outcomes for themselves, and their loved ones? Pat Mastors was an award-winning television news anchor and medical reporter for two decades before beginning her journey as a patient advocate following the sudden hospitalization of her father in 2005. He died six months later from complications due to a hospital-acquired infection. Now, she wants to help others make informed health care choices and be well.
Mastors lobbied successfully to pass two RI state laws improving patient safety, and in 2010 was one of a select group of patient advocates invited by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to participate in its first-ever Leadership Summit for Patient Activists and Partners in Quality and Safety. Pat serves on the HAI reporting advisory committee for the Rhode Island Department of Health, and on the Advisory Board to the Small Business Development Center at Johnson & Wales University. She also founded Pear Health, LLC and invented a wellness product - a portable safety and amenity system - known as The Patient Pod, "your advocate on the hospital bedrail."
Mastors now shares her story, including the 6 best strategies and insider tips everyone needs to know to ensure the safest hospital stay. Mastors is able to speak on a variety of healthcare and patient safety concerns. She titled another talk topic of interest she developed, "What healthcare can learn from IKEA."
Mastors can speak in media interviews, corporate presentations, or event/guest speaking. Any group, organization, or conference can connect to the life-saving message of patient safety.
