A death from the Listeria outbreak in Cantaloupe has been reported in Kansas. Peterson and Associates, P.C. is dedicated to helping families that have been affected by the Listeria Cantaloupe outbreak.
Kansas City, MO, October 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Federal health officials have raised the death toll to 18 in the outbreak of listeria in cantaloupe. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed 100 illnesses in 20 states, including the 18 deaths. The agency has confirmed two additional deaths in Colorado and one in Kansas since last week. The death toll is almost certain to rise, as listeria-linked outbreaks can have incubation periods approaching two months.

The cantaloupes, which were recalled Sept. 14, have a short shelf life and likely are no longer available — or edible, health officials said. But listeria infections can develop up to two months after eating contaminated food.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in its most recent update assures consumers that cantaloupes known not to have originated at the Jensen Farm in Colorado "are safe to eat."
According to MSNBC, most of the infections in the current outbreak have been in people older than 60, with an average age of 79 among those who have become ill. Listeria infections can also be dangerous to others with weakened immune systems, including pregnant women.
