Whizbang Marketing Firm Releases First San Luis Obispo County Social Media Report on Local Businesses
Report reveals area's top business profiles on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
San Luis Obispo, CA, October 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Whizbang, a marketing firm in San Luis Obispo, has released San Luis Obispo County’s first social media report covering the usage of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube among SLO County businesses. The report reveals which businesses have the largest number of followers on these channels, as well as which industries and areas in the county are most active on the three sites.
“There is a lot of anxiety about social media and if businesses should do it. We had a lot of clients ask us if other companies in the county were doing it and how often they posted. We thought it would be a great time to do a benchmark study, so we could ease that anxiety,” said Ellen Curtis, owner and managing partner of Whizbang.
The report was compiled in August 2011 and released last week to Whizbang’s social media followers. The report consists of a white paper, as well as an infographic of the findings.
Whizbang found that sixty percent of businesses have Facebook pages, which is consistent with national trends, yet the average number of “Likes” is well below the national average. There are less Twitter accounts in the area compared to the national trend, yet businesses have a higher number of average followers. Whizbang also says the report is only a snapshot of social media usage and the numbers are always changing.
Since there were no tools to measure social media usage in an area, Whizbang had to be resourceful with how they gathered data. This included searching Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, as well as Google. The data excludes large chains such as Target, McDonald’s, Kohl’s, etc.
“Social media isn’t something to scoff at or be afraid of. Local businesses are using it and having success. Those that are in our top 10 list are there because they engage their audience. This report shows that social media continues to grow and become an important part of marketing,” says Curtis.
Whizbang plans to repeat the study next year to see how the numbers have changed on all three channels. To obtain a copy of the report, visit http://www.whizbangideas.com/contact/whitepaper.
