However, uncertainty shortened planning horizons and recalibration of plans is ongoing. Annual plans are no longer locked which results in some thrashing in implementation project portfolios.”
Participants discussed macro trends in the market including volatility in fixed income markets that also impact equities. Changes in the broker/dealer industry were covered in detail. “The composition of broker/dealers tied with a shakeup of the competitive playing field in the clearing business will lead to significant landscape changes in the fully disclosed market,” noted Jeffrey Wu. “Niche providers will continue to seek opportunities to add value and partner with clearing providers who may eventually become direct competitors. These fluid market dynamics are testing the agility of many participants. On the product side, we are seeing mobile touchpoint continue to attract additional investment with the retail channels driving innovation back into institutional platforms.” The continued growth of RIAs as well as expanding requirements for hybrids are necessitating investments in both business and technology infrastructures to support evolving correspondent business models.
