Munchkins® Helping Munchkins - Sunrise Dunkin’ Donuts Teams Up with The Sydney & Alexandria Cohen Foundation to Commemorate Prematurity Awareness Month in November

Sunrise Dunkin' Donuts partners with a Plantation, FL charity in conjunction with Prematurity Awareness Month. A portion of donuts and Munchkins® sold in November will be donated to the Sydney & Alexandria Cohen Foundation.

Sunrise, FL, October 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A local Dunkin’ Donuts (10019 Sunset Strip at Nob Hill Place) has partnered with the Sydney & Alexandria Cohen Foundation, Inc. (wwwdotSACohenFoundationdotorg), a 501 c3 nonprofit charity.

As part of this charitable partnership, the Sunrise Dunkin’ Donuts location will be offering two custom donuts and mini containers of chocolate and glazed Munchkins® for the entire month of November 2011, nationally recognized as Prematurity Awareness Month.

The Munchkins® will be sold in the kiddie Coolatta® 9 oz. containers, exclusive to the Sunrise store, eight for $1.00. The store will also offer two custom donuts, one yeast shell filled with jelly and will feature the charity’s logo with twin intertwined purple hearts. The other donut will be a yeast ring donut with vanilla and purple icing. Each signature donut will sell for $1.00.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of donuts will benefit The Sydney & Alexandria Cohen Foundation, a nonprofit that was created by Plantation parents Jennifer and Brian Cohen after their twin daughters were born 10 weeks premature. The girls weighed 2 lbs. 14 oz and 3.3 oz at birth and spent five weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Memorial Hospital West (MHW) in Pembroke Pines. Sydney and Alexandria do not have any health complications from being born so early and are now healthy 8-year-olds who attend third grade at David Posnack Jewish Day School.

Jennifer and Brian have always been actively involved in giving back and wanted to do something that would celebrate their healthy daughters, while at the same time, help future premature babies have the best chance at a healthy life. They have been raising money to buy and donate GE Omnibed Giraffe incubators to the Memorial Hospital West NICU in Pembroke Pines.

The Giraffe is the most advanced and developmentally superior incubator available today. It combines design and state-of-the-art technology to create an unsurpassed healing environment for premature infants. It also allows for multiple procedures to be performed in the main isolate, eliminating the stress of moving critically ill infants from bed to bed.

“We could not think of a better way to show our extreme gratitude for our healthy daughters than to donate these incubators which will help thousands of premature babies year after year,” said Jennifer Cohen.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to help The Sydney & Alexandria Cohen Foundation,” said Bob McElhenny, Director of Operations and co-franchisee owner for the Sunset Strip Dunkin’ Donuts location. “It’s great to support a charity knowing the funds will stay within our local community.”

“Munchkins are small, just like premature babies,” said Stanley Gordon, co-franchisee. “We thought this would be a fun and tasty way to support a local charity.”

In addition to the month-long fundraiser, on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from Noon to 4pm, Dunkin’ Donuts (Sunrise location) will hold a family fun day fundraiser. For a donation of $10.00 per child, parents are invited to bring their children who will have the opportunity to decorate their own donuts using frosting, sprinkles and powdered sugar. Each parent will also receive a free cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
