National Spotlight Shines on "Incognito" Artist from Virginia
Mike NO’s "Vigilante Expression" Showcased Nationwide in Art Publications, Exhibitions
Fredericksburg, VA, October 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- “It was as if he was always walking in a shadow. Every step he took towards the light...just when you thought his face would be revealed, it wasn’t. It was as if the lights dimmed...just for him.” One could envision this line from the Robert Rodriguez film “Desperado” when getting a glimpse of Mike NO. Donning a bandana around his face and a baseball cap adorned with an interlocking N and O, his blue eyes are the only facial feature that can be discerned.
Mike NO has recently garnered national acclaim for his "American Vigilante Expression" style of art and no one seems to be immune from his barrage. He fires artistic salvos at wide-ranging topics concerning social injustice in America to post-modern art and artists. This can be seen in “P.O.P. – Paradigm of Payback,” a satirical collection of images parodying iconic Pop Art pieces complete with a quote from the artist, “Andy Warhol once said he wanted to be a machine, well I want to be a machine gun.”
Mike NO is no run of the mill landscape painter and rejects being defined as such. While he does paint, Mike NO also creates digital, mixed media, photography, and video works. All of these weapons of "Vigilante Expression" have been dispersed over the country recently through his website, MikeNOArt.com as well as exhibitions and publications. Mike received much attention and acclaim when he exhibited at the University of Tennessee at Martin’s “Artists of the 21st Century” show earlier this year prompting an influx of his work being acquired by private collectors.
His photography is featured in this month’s edition of Morpheme Magazine, his "No Brush" method of painting is being published in the November 2011 edition of “Everything is Art” magazine, and his socially charged mixed media is a part of the “I Have the Right” Exhibit taking place at The Picture Cultural Art Center in the Greater Los Angeles Area of California from November 15th of this year through the Summer of 2012.
Mike NO was born in Newport News, Virginia and has a B.A. in Art History from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
