New York, NY, October 28, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Billboard Magazine World Artist/Actress, Gay Marshall, will perform the original song “Gift of Light” with Tony Award winner, Anika Noni Rose, on Friday, October 28th on Liberty Island, during a day of ceremonies honoring the 125th Anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. Ms. Marshall, who is currently playing the role of Jacqueline in the National Tour of "La Cage aux Folles," will travel to NYC to participate in the event.
“Gift of Light” was composed by Grammy-winning composer Doug Katsaros with words by Emmy-nominated lyricist Bill Schermerhorn. Ms. Marshall was commissioned to write a French translation of the song in honor of the event. The song celebrates the Statue as a gift of friendship from France to America. In addition to the live performance at noon, the recording will be a special feature of the musical accompaniment for the Macy's Fireworks display, the grand finale of the festivities.
In November, Gay Marshall will release her second CD, titled “Go Back Where You Stayed Last Night,” a collection of 20’s and 30’s New Orleans style “foot stompin’, hand clappin’, good time blues.” With inspiration from Ethel Waters, who wrote the title track with Sidney Easton, the CD repertoire includes titles like “Sweet Man,” “West End Blues” and “Brother You Got Me Wrong.” The CD was recorded in Cleveland and New York.
Marshall's debut CD, “Gay Marshall Sings Piaf, la Vie L’Amour” landed on the Billboard World Album chart in January 2010 as a #12 Hot Shot Debut. It includes rare and well known songs associated with the late French icon, Edith Piaf. Marshall sings the music in French and English and she wrote many of the English adaptations.
On October 18, The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. announced that Macy's has committed the proceeds from the sale of the recording of "Gift of Light" to benefit the Foundation's non-profit mission for projects at Liberty and Ellis Islands, working in partnership with the National Park Service. The single is available on iTunes.
