High Bluff Academy Establishes Community Outreach Club for Students
The community service-focused club will better prepare students for college applications while helping the community
San Diego, CA, October 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- High Bluff Academy, the North County college preparatory school specializing in SAT and ACT test preparation, announced today that the institution has created High Bluff Outreach, a community service club encouraging students to gain valuable life experience through philanthropy.
The mission of High Bluff Outreach is to provide opportunities for students to become compassionate, active members of the community while engaging with people outside of their everyday world. Students will volunteer with two charities chosen by High Bluff Academy, one local and one international, and will develop marketing and fundraising campaigns for each charity.
“We noticed that while our students have strong academics, some of them do not participate in many extracurricular activities,” said High Bluff Founder Jill Duoto. “We want to make sure students are prepared for college by having many experiences that make them as well-rounded as possible.”
High Bluff Academy chose the San Diego-based Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) in an effort to remain consistent with the institution’s focus on health and fitness. Students will help CAF prepare for the October 23 triathlon at La Jolla Cove by preparing materials for the event and volunteering their time at the triathlon.
On an international level, the club’s goal is to increase students’ awareness of political and economic events abroad. High Bluff Academy has donated $1,000 to The Project for Sudan for a new electric generator at a maternity clinic in the world's newest country, South Sudan. In addition, the country has adopted English as its national language and is in need of books written in English. Students will raise awareness of the poverty in South Sudan and help raise money for rural villagers by organizing a book and clothing drive.
