Austin, TX, October 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Savvy Kids Education returns to deliver another Austin Savvy Kids Conference. Building on the success of last year’s conferences, this year’s event continues to highlight local experts and community leaders and deliver activities and information centered on the Savvy Kids Core Pillars: Community Involvement, Environmental Awareness, Financial Literacy and Personal Health. With over 35 local exhibitors and educators, indoor and outdoor activities, and multiple stages of entertainment, this is a great opportunity for families to get involved with their community while kids learn valuable life skills in a fun and entertaining environment.
What To Expect
Kids will be engaged from the moment they walk in the door and can look forward to a kid-themed, energetic atmosphere; hands on displays and workshops; audience stage participation; an Exhibitor Booth Activity Passport challenge and lots of giveaways.
"My 8-year-old daughter loved going to each booth and trying the challenges to earn her sticker for the passport. She has been very excited since and does not want to take off her T-shirt she earned. She is looking forward to attending again next year and even asked me if she could volunteer at the event putting on the wrist bands. I will make sure we come back next year. Thank you for everything.
--- Stella Morgan, Austin, TX
In the Exhibitor Halls, leading local and national organizations showcase products, services and programs and host fun, educational activities as part of our MokiTM Passport Challenge. Activities range from sorting different materials into recyclables, compostables and trash with Austin Resource Recovery to building a bridge from recycled materials with Abrakadoodle. Destination Imagination hosts critical thinking challenges throughout the day. GetFlipped! offers a one-of-a kind conference souvenir by capturing two poses and transposing them onto a conference backdrop, creating an ‘animated’ picture that attendees can take home.
Main Stage events include Just Imagine Upstage Players performing a song and dance from their original show "Welcome to Camp Katchikootee," Austin Water's Dowser Dan and friends sing about how you can save one of our most precious resources – water; Give As You Get Founder David Sandal shares his vision of how to turn ordinary shopping into extraordinary giving…and much more.
On the Outdoor Plaza, the Music Stage features performances throughout the day by youth bands including the Austin School of Rock and The Band Chapter Three. Kids will get energized in the Kids Fun Zone inflatables, art, snacks, and by visiting Down On the Farm’s Petting Zoo friends.
Each pillar is represented by a track of Educational Workshops which are led by local Austin experts. Workshops introduce young learners and their parents to core concepts through an interactive style of teaching. Workshops include: RunTex “Born to Run”; A Legacy of Giving “Philanthropy, Advocacy, and Community Service"; Lori’s Culinary Co. “Cook, Learn, Grow”; Financial Literacy Coalition’s “Consumer Savvy for Kids"; Countryside Nursery “Garden Insects: The Good & the Bad”; The Money Academy “Blast the Money Trap™ Game” …and many more. Also new this year, the conference is offering Parent Workshops. Kid Venture’s President, Mike McDonell and Camps Director, Patrick Biron, host ” Bringing Summer Camp Home” and “Video Game Addiction: Redirecting the Virtual Generation.”
Supporting The Austin Community
Savvy Kids Education is proud to partner with exemplary organizations who give back to the Austin Community. This year’s conference is hosted on the beautiful St. Gabriel’s Catholic School campus. St. Gabriel’s will host a snack pack assembly throughout the day benefiting Mobile Loaves and Fishes.
"Service learning is a critical part of our 21st Century Learning Curriculum. It is essential that our students not only participate in service projects but that they reflect on the deeper meaning contained within them. Service is not only transformational, but it is also fun. Some of our graduates have gone on to create their own non-profit foundations to serve the Austin Community. Our relationship with Mobile Loaves and Fishes is an important part of our service learning program, and we are happy to highlight this organization at the Savvy Kids Conference."
-- Angela Glode, Director of Institutional Advancement, St. Gabriel’s
Conference goers and schools are encouraged to bring a donation to the conference to drop off at the Operation Turkey booth. Each donation receives a complimentary Splat Pig toy as a thank you from the conference.
Online registration is only $8 and is open through November 10th. Registration at the door is $10. Each admission includes workshops, passport challenge prizes, and a conference goodie bag. Parents and kids not participating in workshops are free and Expo areas are open to the public.
