Mobile Money Global Awards Announced in Dubai
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The National Bank of Abu Dhabi has won the prestigious Mobile Money Award for offering the best IMT (international money transfer) programme in the industry. The annual awards form part of this week's Connected World Forum in Dubai, which has gathered the world's leading mobile experts, showcasing next-generation mobile applications and services in the money, health, education and agricultural sectors.
Celebrating the success of mobile money
Speaking at the award ceremony on Tuesday evening, programme director Sonum Puri says: "the National Bank of Abu Dhabi has done a remarkable job with its IMT programme. Mobile money is viewed as a fantastic vehicle for cross border remittances, yet few providers have successfully launched IMT services."
She continues: "This is the second year that we are celebrating the success of mobile money and the impact that it is having on the lives of end users around the world. Following a vigorous review process of scores of entries, our team of judges, made up of industry experts, have selected the top mobile money programmes in each of our seven categories."
Safaricom double winners
Industry pioneer Safaricom has won two in two of the Mobile Money Awards categories. Sonum Puri explains: "Safaricom's M-PESA mobile money service in Kenya has won for outstanding achievement in financial inclusion. M-PESA is a legendary business in this industry and has made a real difference to the unbanked in that country, bringing about tangible social and economic improvement." Safaricom, along with its banking partner Equity Bank, were also awarded the best joint venture bank and operator.
The other winners in the Mobile Money Awards are:
- Best mobile money launch - Orange Money Madagascar
- Best bank led programme - Dutch-Bangla Bank
- Best operator led programme - Smart Communications
- Most inventive marketing campaign - PinPay
