Nebraska Celebrates 11/11/11 as Global Peace Day
Governor Dave Heinemann of Nebraska and Mayor Jim Suttle of Omaha, NE have proclaimed 11/11/11 as Global Peace Day. There is going to be a large gathering of people in Omaha on 11/11/11 with the Mayor as Chief Guest to observe silence for a minute at 11:11AM at the Social Hall of the Hindu Temple.
Omaha, NE, November 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Universal Peace Foundation of North America (UPFNA) along with Project Interfaith is joining many organizations around the world in celebrating 11/11/11 as Global Peace Day.
"The absence of individual peace is perhaps the main cause for lack of global peace today. When we concentrate the scattered power of many individual minds on a single thought - Peace at the same time it would create a powerful peace vibration that travels across the globe as ripples in water," said HH Paranjothi Mahan, the founder of Universal Peace Foundation in India who has been in touch with various world leaders about this calendar date 11/11/11 that happens once in a millennium. Interestingly, this date also marks the ceasefire of World War I at 11:11 AM on Nov 11th, 1918.

Mayor Jim Suttle will be the Chief Guest at the celebrations where a large number of people will come together in person, though webcast and teleconference to observe silence for a minute at 11:11AM on 11/11/11 at the Social Hall in the Hindu Temple of Omaha.
A Global Peace Day Essay Contest is also being conducted for the students of grade 4, 5 and 6 in the Omaha area. Children are the pillars of the future society and this encourages them to think about peace right in their formative age.
"UPFNA extends a warm invitation to all citizens to come and observe the silence and promote peace within our families, nation and globe," said Mr. Balakrishnan, President of UPFNA.
