Ekena’s FiberThane Balustrade Passes Certification for 16’ Lengths
Dallas, TX, November 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Ekena Millwork announces that their new balustrade system - FiberThane Balustrade - has officially passed all formal testing for 16’ lengths. Ekena’s FiberThane Balustrade System is the only composite balustrade system allowed to be used on either commercial or residential applications at 16’ lengths.
While Ekena Millwork’s closest competitors have urethane balustrade systems that offer rails at 12’ lengths, they are only certified for 8’ lengths. The FiberThane system has a patent-pending design that utilizes the incredible strength of fiberglass for the major structural components. This unique design allows it to pass all necessary tests required for structural uses at 16’ lengths. Not only did it pass the requirements, but it passed them by more than six times the requirements.
Historically, composite balustrade systems have only been certified for 8’ lengths. This caused architects to design their projects with many more newel posts than would look ideal. But because the balustrade systems could only span 8’ lengths, it was necessary. For example, on a standard 12’ long balcony, the architect or builder was required to put a supportive newel post right in the middle of the balcony in order to not exceed the 8’ allowed span.
Ekena has literally changed the balustrade market now that their FiberThane Balustrade System has been certified to span 16’ lengths. Architects no longer have to design newel posts where they do not wish to. Utilizing FiberThane, they now have the flexibility to span distances twice as far as previously allowed. Builders no longer have to put a newel post in the middle of that 12’ balcony - they can span the entire 12’ using FiberThane.
According to Daniel Milkie of Ekena Millwork, “FiberThane will truly revolutionize the balustrade industry.” He feels that, “This product will change the way that architects design their plans, and the way contractors build their projects. It gives these professionals, tools and flexibility that they have not previously had with the balustrade product category.”
FiberThane has only been available for the last few months, but has already been specified on two large commercial projects, as well as numerous residential projects. “At this rate of adoption, we expect FiberThane to be the new standard in the balustrade market. It is stronger, more durable, comes with more options, is more cost-effective, ships faster, and can now span longer lengths than any balustrade system on the market. There is no reason to not use it!” says Ekena’s Daniel Milkie.
