‘Tis the Season – How to do Good While You Shop

While your eyes may start to shine with the thought of the goodies and gadgets you will be getting this holiday season - don’t forget that Christmas is also about giving. Not just giving gifts, but giving to a good cause. A website just launched that can help you do both.

Minneapolis, MN, November 09, 2011 --(PR.com)-- It used to be that Christmas decorations didn’t go up until after the Thanksgiving turkey had been eaten and the tryptophan-induced sleepiness had worn off. Walk into most stores and you will already see ornament-laden trees, automatronic singing Santas and glittering baubles to buy for your loved ones.

While your eyes may start to shine with the thought of the goodies and gadgets you will be getting - don’t forget that Christmas is also about giving. Not just giving gifts, but giving to a good cause. A website just launched that can help you do both.

When you shop online through their site, Givitz.com will donate a portion of the purchase price to a featured charity. While the online store selection is still limited (but features some big names like Amazon.com), they are adding more stores regularly.

“Our goal is to make giving easy for people,” said Lisa Tollberg of Givitz.com. “Consumers spent $30.8 billion on holiday shopping online last year. If just a fraction of those purchases were made through our site, that would mean a big difference for the charities we support.”

The featured charity changes on a monthly basis so several causes are represented over the course of a year. Now through November 24, donations go to Feeding America – a national non-profit that provides hunger relief to more than 37 million Americans each year.
