Datalight Improves User Experience with Low-Latency Reliable File System
Datalight has released a new version of its Reliance Nitro file system with latency reduction, improved security and enhanced control over dynamic transaction point settings.
Bothell, WA, November 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Today Datalight announced a new version of its flagship Reliance Nitro file system with improved responsiveness, adaptive controls for performance, and enhanced security for e•MMC and other compatible media.
At the heart of Datalight’s new file system is technology that allows the system to interrupt writes as needed to reduce latency on reads. This enables multi-threaded and multi-core systems to more efficiently manage concurrent functions – especially noticeable for users of multimedia (audio/video/gaming) applications. In fact, in-flight entertainment systems offer an ideal use case for this technology, which will allow users to play a movie while the device simultaneously downloads content for later use and verifies its condition. Recent testing shows Reliance Nitro is able to read more than twice as much data while maintaining a write speed comparable to the native file system.*
Reliance Nitro 2.5 now includes a straightforward C library interface which gives OEMs an easier way to control transaction behavior at the application level, changing the way computerized devices handle data. As smart phones and other embedded mobile devices continue to add features and functionality, file systems must manage data in a complex array of different use cases within a single device. This becomes problematic when the file data requirements of one function (such as text messaging) conflict with the requirements of other functions (such as taking a photo). Modern converged mobile devices contain dozens of these different functions, each with its own optimal data protection and performance optimization settings. The newest version of Reliance Nitro gives OEMs the ability to custom tailor context-aware data management for different functions within the same device. The file system can also be set to protect system settings during a field upgrade, maintaining the original state until the upgrade is complete and preventing system corruption that would result in many non-functional deployed units.
“Reliance Nitro has always had the ability to dynamically configure transaction settings. With this new release, we are making it easier for applications to access to this adaptive control,” said Datalight CEO Roy Sherrill. “Now instead of compromising between fast performance and protecting important data, OEMs can set data parameters that change dynamically as the device switches functions.”
Security has been enhanced in Reliance Nitro through the ability to easily plug in custom encryption algorithms to the file system.
Reliance Nitro is also the first file system to offer software support for file level secure delete, utilizing features defined by the e•MMC 4.40 and 4.41 specifications*. The secure delete feature in Reliance Nitro purges all the file data on e•MMC and other compatible media when a file is copied or altered by the file system in order to ensure a completely secure erase. This includes any hidden copies created by the file system to safe-guard reliability. Assuming complimentary hardware support, users can be confident that every instance or fragment of a file will be permanently deleted and therefore unrecoverable.
