Applied Systems Publishes a Conference Paper on Automated Testing
Applied Systems Ltd. summarized its expertise in the field of automated testing in the contribution titled "Dealing with challenges of automating test execution: Architecture proposal for automated testing control system based on integration of testing tools."
Minsk, Belarus, November 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The use of the term "automated testing" in the IT industry is often misleading.
Automated testing generally refers only to running automated test scripts, while a number of routine activities related to test execution are carried out manually by testers – setting up testing environment, launching tests, reporting defects in a bug tracking system, generating reports. This situation would be more appropriately described as "quasi-automation." Yet, achieving complete automation of these routine tasks promises great efficiency gains for IT organizations.
In their conference paper "Dealing with challenges of automating test execution: Architecture proposal for automated testing control system based on integration of testing tools" presented during VALID 2011 Valery Safronau and Vitalina Turlo from Applied Systems Ltd. address the problems of automated testing within IT companies and describe a system for automating all routine testing activities.
The authors start with proposing a classification of automated testing maturity levels based on such criteria as the degree of automation of testing-related activities and company’s scale. Further, the contribution highlights the main challenges that companies face in the attempt to reach the advanced level of automated testing. Finally, the authors present a system for automated testing control which enables the automation of all testing-relating activities. In the paper, the architecture of such a solution is proposed, including sample interfaces, key system components, interactions between them and their functionality. The idea is based on the integration of customer’s testing tools under a common UI via their APIs, namely file server, build machine, versioning control system, virtualization server, bug tracking system, and test automation tools.
