Second Annual HBCU Pro Combine on December 19 & 20, 2011 Will Bring “Much Deserved” Recognition to HBCU Players
Greensboro, NC, November 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Star football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will have the opportunity to show their stuff at the 2nd Annual HBCU & Small College Pro Combine. All 32 NFL Coaches and Scouting Directors have been invited.
Will they find the next Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, or Michael Strahan? Former 9-Year NFL Veteran, Robert Massey, thinks so. As this year’s Director of Competition, Massey is reaching out to his NFL colleagues and friends to help generate renewed attention to the overlooked, yet fruitful, talent of HBCU players. “There is break-out talent at HBCUs across the country. But the HBCUs continue to be overlooked. By hosting the HBCU NFL Combine, our goal is to bring increased recognition to HBCU football programs and infuse the NFL with the superior level of play and pride that only HBCU players can bring,” states Massey. “We are indeed grateful to the NFL. Their front office vision and support has been amazing.”
The Combine is for all draft eligible players. It is by invitation only. Events on day one include the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, bench press, pull-ups, and agility drills. Day two includes practice sessions and one-on-one drills for scouts in attendance; culminating in a controlled scrimmage, one day two (December 20, 2011).
Filming services will provided at the Sportsplex by Triad Entertainment Network (www.tenwebtv.com). The National Football League Offices in New York will assist and ensure complete stats and film on every selected HBCU Combine participant, is distributed to all 32 NFL Teams. Also, it should be noted that this year there are no participation fees for invited players. However, invitees must bring helmets, pads, cleats, and white game pants. All other athletic gear will be provided at sign-in on Sunday, December 18th.
“We are thrilled with the response we are receiving from all of our nation’s HBCU coaches and participants and the enthusiastic response from the NFL. Holding this special venue in December will enable NFL coaches and scouts to fully evaluate a player’s dynamics and potential,” says Mark Bloomquist, co-founder of the HBCU Pro Combine (www.procombine.com).
