Bayer’s Polyaspartic Gelcoat Technology Accelerates Waterslides’ Return to Service

Pittsburgh, PA, November 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Water park owners and contractors are seeking advanced gelcoat technology that offers faster cures, improved color and gloss retention, and proven durability so they can repair, re-finish and re-open waterslides.

Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s two-component (2K) polyaspartic coating technology used in waterslide refurbishment provides faster return to service without sacrificing weatherability or chemical resistance.

Novel polyaspartic-based gelcoat technology can replace traditional, site-applied polyester gelcoats and offers excellent color and gloss retention, chemical and abrasion resistance, no odor, improved flexibility for crack and chip resistance, reduced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and improved weatherability.

Steven Reinstadtler, construction marketing manager, Coatings and Sustainability Initiatives, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, discussed these benefits and shared case studies when he presented “Site-Applied Gelcoat Refurbishment Using Polyaspartic Technology” on Tuesday, Nov.15, during The Polyurea Development Association (PDA) Europe’s fifth annual conference in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Reinstadtler detailed new polyaspartic technology developments that allow contractors to repair aged gelcoat originally used as a topcoat/wearcoat over fiberglass composites and other architectural substrates using this environmentally preferred option. This technology can be used on applications including spas, ships, waterslides and amusement parks. It can be applied in a thick, one-coat process, eliminating time-consuming multi-coat options. Owners and contractors now have a more durable and sustainable solution for their gelcoat refurbishing challenges.
