Carolina Panthers Charities and Charlotte Rescue Mission Partner with Samaritan’s Feet to Provide New Shoes for Homeless Guests at a Community Meal on Thanksgiving Day

Charlotte, NC, November 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Samaritan’s Feet and 200 volunteers will bring hope and new athletic shoes to 400 neighbors in the Charlotte area. Through a grant provided by the Carolina Panthers Charities, Samaritan’s Feet has partnered with the Charlotte Rescue Mission to identify men and women in need and put new shoes and socks on their feet.

Carolina Panthers Charities assess the needs of communities in North and South Carolina and develop programs and partnerships that include the promotion of healthy lifestyles for families. Charlotte Rescue Mission provides residential programs for homeless, jobless men and women with alcohol and drug addiction issues.

The Samaritan’s Feet Shoes of Hope distribution will be held on Thanksgiving Day from 9:00am-2:00pm at Charlotte Rescue Mission, 907 West 1st Street, Charlotte, NC. The shoe distribution is being held in conjunction with Charlotte Rescue Mission’s annual Thanksgiving meal for community guests, clients and volunteers.

“The support of Samaritan’s Feet and Carolina Panthers Charities helps to provide for the dignity and respect that each guest will be shown at Charlotte Rescue Mission on Thanksgiving Day,” said Rev. Tony Marciano, Executive Director at the Charlotte Rescue Mission.

The 400 guests being served are clients recovering from drug and alcohol addiction and guests from the community. Volunteers will demonstrate servant leadership by washing the feet of the recipients before giving them a new pair of shoes and sharing with them a message of hope. Samaritan’s Feet is a humanitarian relief organization that puts shoes on feet all around the world.

"There's no better way to spend Thanksgiving Day than serving others,” said Samaritan’s Feet Associate Director of Operations, Phil Campbell. “The winter months are approaching and many of our neighbors own only flip flops or sandals. Proper footwear is essential, and a grant from the Carolina Panthers allowed us to make this shoe distribution happen quickly.”

The volunteers at this event will join the over 70,000 people who have served at Samaritan’s Feet Shoes of Hope distributions throughout the United States and 52 countries over the last eight years.

About Samaritan's Feet
Samaritan’s Feet is a 501(c)(3), humanitarian aid organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of impoverished children and adults around the world and adorning them with new shoes. There are an estimated 300 million children who go without shoes every day and more than 1 million that die each year from foot borne disease. Our goal is to provide 10 million pairs of shoes for 10 million impoverished children in the next 10 years, and since 2003 Samaritan’s Feet and its team of 70,000 ambassadors have blessed nearly 3.5 million children in over 62 nations.

Samaritan’s Feet was started in 2003 by Manny Ohonme who received his first pair of shoes at the age of 9 from a missionary. Those shoes allowed him to learn and play the game of basketball, which ultimately earned him a scholarship to the University of North Dakota (Lake Region). Manny went on to receive his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees and pursued and successful career in supply chain software industries. From a simple pair of shoes and the kindness and compassion shared by this missionary changed the course of Manny’s life. Samaritan’s Feet is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina and has facilities in Indianapolis, Washington, D.C., San Bernardino, CA, as well as Cape Town, South Africa, Nigeria, Brazil and Peru where they employ 30 staff members who coordinate the distribution of shoes on 3 continents.
