Manchester, CT, November 27, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Connecticut Concert Ballet continues a 37-year tradition with its announcement of performances of the full-length Nutcracker in the Hartford, CT area. Artistic Directors David Lawrence and Wendy Fish-Lawrence’s family-friendly production will be performed for two weekends in Manchester. Three performances will be held each weekend at the Bailey Auditorium, 134 Middle Turnpike East, on December 10 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.), December 11 (2 p.m.), December 17 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and December 18 (2 p.m.). The production will highlight CCB’s talented local students alongside professional dancers from Ballet Hispanico, NYC and dancers most recently with the Milwaukee Ballet.
As the most affordable Nutcracker in the area, CCB’s show is known for elaborate staging, professional-quality costuming, intricate choreography and riveting dancing and has been a seasonal favorite for families and organizations such as scouting and arts groups. In 2010, 4,500 audience members attended the shows. Tickets are available by phone (860) 418-7294, online at www.connecticutnutcracker.com, at Dance Village, 171 Spencer St, Manchester and Hairdresser on Fire, 176 Broad St, Windsor.
According to Wendy Fish-Lawrence, "I am often asked why we have 'Concert' in our name. The definition of “Concert Dance” is 'a theatrical representation of a story that is performed to music by trained dancers.'
"Since its founding, Connecticut Concert Ballet has had a dual purpose in addition to training its students. These are, to offer all students the opportunity to participate in fully-staged productions, and to present professional quality performances throughout Connecticut. This has been a winning formula for 37 years, and as our studio reaches new milestones we are excited to announce this year’s Nutcracker performances. As always our highly capable students from 35 towns are an integral part of our production, not mere window dressing.
"In addition, to both expose our students to a new level of performance experience and to treat our audiences, we will be featuring professional dancers in the roles of the Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy. The first weekend, from Ballet Hispanico in New York City, Mario I. Espinoza and Kimberly Van Woesik will join us. The following weekend, from Chicago, Illinois and most recently with the Milwaukee Ballet, Darren McIntyre and Jennifer Grapes will perform. All performances will be held at the Bailey Auditorium at Manchester High School, a state of the art venue that is one of the largest in Connecticut.
"As always, the technical aspects of our production including costumes, lighting and stage crew are provided by professionals. All proceeds fund our not-for-profit school year round, keeping the total cost for our students the lowest in the area."
Ticket Information: Preferred Front & Center Seats $35; General Admission: Adults $25, Child/Student/Senior $15. Group discounts are available.
