Colorado Subaru Service Department Gives Colorado Residents Tips for Safe Winter Driving

McDonald Independent Pre-Owned Subaru in Littleton wants to help their customers and other Colorado drivers stay safe this winter by providing sound advice for winterizing their vehicle.

Denver, CO, November 27, 2011 --(PR.com)-- With the first snow fall in Denver and many more to come, the McDonald Independent Subaru service department decided it was time to help their loyal customers and Colorado drivers everywhere get ready for the hazardous conditions.

The Colorado Subaru dealer, part of the McDonald Automotive Group which has been serving the Littleton community for over 50 years, has a long-standing reputation for putting the consumer first and delivering outstanding service- whether it’s a new car sale or a Subaru oil change. This year is no exception. With the cold months on the way the staff provided some easy tips for staying safe in the snow.

The first piece of advice the Subaru service department gives: check the battery to make sure it will crank over in the freezing temperatures. Both the engine coolant and windshield washer fluid should be checked to make sure they do not freeze. This could be a costly repair that was easily preventable. It’s important to make sure the washer fluid is in good condition- on a mild freeze the windshield washer would not work right when you need it most to see out your windshield.

The staff also suggests making sure you have a good, quality ice scraper, and remember not to run your wiper blades until all of the ice is scraped and melted. Your soft rubber wiper blades can easily get damaged wiping over the ice on your windshield.

Additionally, your tires need to be checked for tread depth and condition. The best tires for snow and ice are of course winter tires. If you have summer tires or worn out tires it is important to get them replaced before the Colorado snow starts falling.

“Every year there’s a huge scramble to get their winter tires installed right after a snow storm or after they’ve had an accident,” explains one service staff member. “They realize they need new tires when they can’t get up a hill because of lack of traction. This is not the time to get new tires! Customers should come in before these conditions hit.”

The McDonald Independent Service Department does everything from little jobs like oil changes to larger, more serious repairs and can work on any make or model. They service vehicles from Littleton, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Greenwood Village, and all over the Denver area and guarantee their prices are very competitive.
