Mednovus Releases Video of Company President Speaking to FDA on MRI Safety

Leucadia, CA, November 27, 2011 --(PR.com)-- MRI safety experts from around the globe gathered at the FDA's campus in Silver Spring, MD, for a two day workshop of MRI safety in October. Mednovus President, Tobias Gilk, spoke on three different subject areas, and sat on the expert panel to address topics of MRI safety, and specifically ferromagnetic detection systems.

Mednovus, manufacturers of the SAFESCAN® family of ferromagnetic detection products, has made available the first of Mr. Gilk's presentations in a six and a half minute video. The video is available for viewing online.

During his prepared remarks, Mr. Gilk did not speak specifically to the use of ferromagnetic detection systems, but rather addressed overall MRI safety more broadly, providing a new analysis that compares growth in the rates of reported accidents to the change in overall numbers of MRI exams administered in the US. Over the ten-year period analyzed, MRI accidents reported to the FDA grew over 500%, while the number of MRI procedures administered grew less than 90%.

Mr. Gilk's closing remarks implored the FDA to adopt a foundational set of MRI safety standards, addressing the most severe and commonly reported injury types, to protect patients and radiology staff in all environments of care, including hospitals as well as outpatient imaging centers.
