These apps, available for various mobile platforms like the iPhone, Android and Windows7, are perfect for word lovers who want to improve their speech or just have a giggle.
London, United Kingdom, November 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Always saying the wrong thing? Whether you want to impress with eloquent speech or avoid weasel words and the wrong impression, Chambers’ series of new apps will help you – all from your smartphone.
With refreshing graphic design and illustrative quotations drawn from books, newspapers, magazines and websites they are a far cry from the usual boring dictionary apps.
Robert Williams, commissioning editor of Chambers, said, "The latest attempt by Chambers to improve people’s speech, these new apps are perfect for word lovers and the word curious. Now, wherever you are, you’ll always know what to say and who to trust – or even just have a giggle."

Chambers - 200 Words You Shouldn’t Use
The clichés contained in this app are included not to embarrass or accuse the authors and editors responsible: rather they are intended to illustrate the pitfalls and hazards of the English language and to act as a reminder that no-one is immune.
The Chambers - 200 Words You Shouldn’t Use app includes:
▸ A selection of 200 words terms to make you squirm
▸ Word definitions with correct usage or suggested replacements

Chambers - 200 Words You Shouldn’t Trust
Never trust a weasel word. This is sensible advice, given that the phrase comes from an untrustworthy, singular-looking creature. Coined by a lawyer, Stewart Chaplin, it is used to describe "words that suck all the life out of the words next to them, just as a weasel sucks an egg and leaves the shell."
The Chambers - 200 Words You Shouldn’t Trust app includes:
▸ A selection of 200 weasel words, you just can’t trust them
▸ Word definitions with correct usage
▸ A description of the other weasel-esque usage of the word
▸ Roots of a word to shed light on the fundamental meaning
▸ An exhaustive quiz to help you become a master weasel word hunter
The apps are all available on the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7 for £1.49.
About Chambers
In 1901, the year of Queen Victoria’s death and the first transatlantic wireless message, the Chambers’s Twentieth Century Dictionary was published. By compressing definitions in comparison to other dictionaries it was portable but still contained all the words a user might need. In 1952 the entire dictionary was overhauled. A huge number of new words were added, reflecting the advancements of science, social changes and linguistic developments, such as the increasing influence of American English. Since 1952 there have been several new editions of the dictionary, the 1972 edition notably dispensed with the possessive "s" in the title and became Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary. Now known simply as the Chambers Dictionary, it is in its twelfth edition and continues to inform and delight word lovers everywhere.
