Dutchess-Ulster Heart Walk Chairs Announced
Poughkeepsie, NY, November 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Tyrone Muse, Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union (HVFCU) Chief Financial Officer, and Lisa Morris, HVFCU Director of Marketing, have been announced as 2012 Dutchess Ulster Heart Walk co-chairs. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s biggest annual fund raiser. They will lead the organization’s appeal to local businesses and community leaders to sponsor and form teams to join the Heart Walk.
“Heart disease and stroke are the number one and four killers in the Hudson Valley. We hope that local business and community leaders share in our mission to reduce the deadly threat of these illnesses and improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans,” said Muse.
“Heart-health should be a concern to all business leaders. Heart disease costs employers more than $3 billion annually,” said Morris, “It just makes good business sense to support this cause as well as encourage a heart healthy culture at the workplace.”
“Heart disease has touched our families, friends and co-workers,” said Muse. “Corporate support of the Heart Walk ensures that heart and stroke research funding is maintained and that community education programs continue.”
This year, the AHA supported over 135 research studies in New York State alone – over $28 million in research was funded through events like the Heart Walk. American Heart Association-funded research has led to the discovery and development of many treatments and procedures that were once science fiction. Things like CPR, pacemakers, cardiac catheterization, bypass surgery, stents & clot-busting drugs were all American Heart Association research innovations.
Companies interested in supporting the Heart Walk with sponsorship or teams should call Bob Olivo, Walk Director, at 845-905-2133 or email bob.olivo@heart.org .
The Heart Walk is sponsored nationally by Subway and locally by Health Quest, Cumulus Radio and Hudson Valley Magazine.
