“Digital Tools Matter” at HECC 2011
Palo Alto, CA, December 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Hoosier Educational Computer Coordinators Conference (HECC) 2011, November 9-11 in Indianapolis, IN, features CK-12 Keynote - “Digital Tools Matter,” delivered by Neeru Khosla, Co-Founder and Executive Director of CK-12 Foundation.
Technology has the potential to drive performance and excellence in education. Today’s “digital generation” has grown up in an immersive digital environment. Many students come to class armed with interactive digital tools including smart phones, laptops and iPads.
However, even though there has been a remarkable growth in the availability of devices, educators today are still faced with the challenge of finding and implementing content that will translate availability of devices into quality education outcomes.
At the HECCC 2011, an annual conference of instructional technology professionals held in Indiana, Neeru Khosla, Co-founder and Executive Director of the non-profit CK-12 Foundation, delivered a keynote- “Digital Tools Matter”- during which she spoke of the drawbacks of one-size-fits-all instruction. Khosla highlighted the strides made by CK-12 Foundation in empowering teachers and enabling individualized and interactive learning experiences for students using digital technology.
This year’s conference titled "Education Unbound" saw a variety of attendees including instructional technologists, principals, teachers, and other educators charged with implementing technology in schools in Indiana and surrounding regions. The conference included a full day of hands-on workshops and K-12 technology exhibitions.
Other CK-12 participants at HECCC 2011 included Brooke Turner, Tatiana Rostovtseva, Gregg Alpert, and Ope Bukola. Brooke Turner and Tatiana Rostovtseva of the CK-12 team gave a demo of CK-12 products - the teacher centric 1.x FlexBook system, CK-12’s revolutionary free and customizable digital textbooks, and FlexConcepts, their new 2.0 tool for students.
Gregg Alpert and Ope Bukola led a session on implementing technology in the classroom. During their interactive session, participants were asked to “create the classroom of the future.” As part of the exercise, educators grappled with the challenges of transforming schooling with technology, and the myriad changes that would be needed - from better infrastructure to different testing mechanisms - in order to successfully implement a technology-driven transformation in schools.
