New Jersey Bariatric Center Welcomes Its Newest Team Member Leigh Montes, MD
The addition of Dr. Montes allows the New Jersey Bariatric Center to offer patients the knowledge and expertise of four surgeons specially trained in laparoscopic weight loss surgery procedures.
Union, NJ, December 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- New Jersey Bariatric Center is proud to welcome its newest team member Bariatric and General Surgeon Leigh Montes, MD.
Dr. Montes is a board certified surgeon with specialty training in bariatric surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery. She earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she also completed her residency training. Dr. Montes then became senior surgical resident at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Montes completed a fellowship in advanced minimally invasive surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a laparoscopic bariatric surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
An avid traveler, Dr. Montes is a native of Texas who speaks Spanish. She is a recent transplant to New Jersey and is looking forward to practicing and seeing patients in the Garden State.
The addition of Dr. Montes allows the New Jersey Bariatric Center to offer patients the knowledge and expertise of four surgeons specially trained in laparoscopic weight loss surgery procedures. In addition to weight loss surgery, New Jersey Bariatric Center surgeons also perform general surgery, including appendectomy, colon resection, adrenalectomy, nissen fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, hernia repair and cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal).
Drs. Goyal, Forrester, Jack and Montes are on the forefront of technique through their use of single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). With SILS, the operative site is reduced to a single small incision around the belly button instead of traditional laparoscopic surgery that require four or five small incisions. Single incision procedures frequently result in less post-operative pain, less scar tissue and a faster recovery to normal activity. The surgeons evaluate each case individually to determine if the patient is a candidate for this breakthrough procedure.
Founded by Dr. Ajay Goyal, Director of Bariatric Surgery at Overlook Hospital, the New Jersey Bariatric Center team includes Dr. Glenn Forrester, Director of Bariatric Surgery at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Dr. Angela Jack and our newest addition Dr. Leigh Montes. Our aggressive pre-operative evaluations and post-operative follow up led New Jersey Bariatric Center to become one of the leading bariatric surgery practices in the state with zero mortalities and a lower than-average complication rate.
