7th Annual Xterra ACE Big Canyon Triathlon Set for Sunday, June 3, 2007
The 7th Annual XTERRA ACE Big Canyon Triathlon is slated for June 3, 2007. A 1.5 mile down-stream swim in the New River combined with a 7 mile trail run and 10 mile mountain bike segment make this one of the most popular events in the XTERRA race series. New for 2007....a relay division for three person teams.
Oak Hill, WV, May 02, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Featuring a 1.5 mile down-stream swim, a 7 mile trail run, and a 10 mile fast single-track mountain bike segment, the 7th Annual XTERRA ACE Big Canyon Triathlon will take place Sunday, June 3, 2007 at ACE Adventure Center in Oak Hill, West Virginia.
An integral race in the XTERRA America Tour sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the race is located in the spectacular New River Gorge. The event begins with an invigorating and unique down-stream swim in the New River. Participants then make the run/bike transition by climbing 1,000 vertical feet over single-track and forest service roads. The final segment is a fast, single-track course with many hills and the infamous steep descent found on Rigormortis Trail. Age classes in male and female divisions are available. For the 2007 event, the addition of a relay division will open up the race for teams specializing in individual triathlon events.
Representatives from 10 states have participated in past XTERRA events, at ACE. Coordinator Jeff Walls specializes in course development and maintenance. He points to the courses’ diverse terrain as the reason competitors flock to Oak Hill. “This event stands out in the point series due to the unique down-stream swim and its conclusion on the rim of the New River Gorge National River. We have improved stretches of the course based on racer feedback and added more opportunities to participate. We want racers to engage in a highly competitive event while relaxing and enjoying the amenities of our Adventure Center.”
In addition to race activities, participants are invited to an open course practice on Saturday, June 2. A special Pasta Dinner at the Lakeside Dining Lodge is available for racers and their families for $5.00 per person. Lodging at the event site includes chalets with hot tubs, cabin tents with beds, primitive camp sites, bunkhouses & group tents, along with full service RV hookups and shower houses. Advanced reservations are recommended, and camping is free to the race athlete.
Special thanks go to 2007 key sponsors: Coca-Cola, Dasani, General Ambulance, IJ Foodservice, Gatorade, XTERRA Gear, Crook Brothers, GU Energy Gel, SweatVac, E-Caps, iplayoutside, Transition Times, Balega, Rodale, Pacifico, and Yankz!
